Welcome to the
McCuller Lab! This page is here to get you set up with the lab and help you use the tools for the lab.
Setting Up a Lab Account
Create your account at the lab website. The site may be slow so give it some time. This is your account to access all of the software-based infrastructure in the
McCuller Lab.
Mattermost
Next, we can get you set up with the lab's communication tool: Matttermost. Mattermost is a web communication tool that operates much like Slack. It is what LIGO uses also. You can log in to Mattermost using the
McCuller Lab credentials that you just created in the
browser version of Mattermost. While it is possible to only use the browser version of Mattermost, it is far more useful to download the
Mattermost desktop app and the Mattermost app for your smartphone. When logging into the app the server URL is
https://chat.mccullerlab.com/
The
McCuller Lab uses an
online logbook to record happenings in the lab, sometimes called the
LeeLog. It runs the same software as
LIGO's alog. It can be read without
McCuller Lab credentials but on it you will need them. This logbook should be updated when ANYTHING happens in the lab. It is the official record of what happens in the lab. If it is not on the log, then it did not happen. Do not be afraid to post about things that did not work or failed the log can be messy and include guesses just be honest and post often. You can bookmark the URL for the
LeeLog (
https://mccullerlab.com/logs/lab/index.php)
The
McCuller Lab runs
its own custom instance of GitLab. This is the lab's space for storing code in repositories. It has all the same features as the commercial version of
GitLab
The
McCuller Lab's OpenProject is a work management tool that is used for managing tasks as well as ordering items. The
ordering page is used to manage receipts for things bought on the lab's credit cards as well as requesting that quotes and items be purchased.
